Weekend Holding at Crypto Prop Firms: Fees, Forced Closes and Sizing

Every crypto prop firm we track lets you keep a position open from Friday to Monday. Ten add a condition, and the daily limit keeps running the whole time.

Yes, you can hold crypto over the weekend at every one of the 27 prop firms we track, at least on evaluation accounts. Ten of them attach a condition: a daily funding fee, an account type that must be flat, a window when new trades are blocked, or a rule that strips profit from trades straddling the Friday close. The other 17 publish nothing beyond permission. The fee is rarely the problem, though. The real risk is that a weekend price swing counts against your daily loss limit while you are away from the screen. This page covers both.

Where you can hold crypto over the weekend, and on what terms

These are the ten firms that add a condition. Everyone else allows weekend holding without one.

Firm Weekend condition Fee on crypto
Velotrade Allowed 0.05% a day on positions open at the 00:30 UTC reset, weekends included
Kraken Prop Allowed 0.033% a day margin funding, charged in four-hour slices
WenCrypto Allowed on all account types 0.033% a day, taken at 00:15 UTC
Crypto Fund Trader Allowed on every account Platform swap (00:00 UTC on MT5, 22:00 UTC on Match-Trader) or Bybit's funding rate
PropW Allowed, but any trade is shut once it has been open for 10 calendar days Internal rate, amount unpublished
Bitfunded Allowed; maximum holding time is 10 days for majors and 7 for smaller coins None stated
FTMO Allowed on evaluations and the Swing type; funded Standard accounts need to be flat ahead of any pause in trading exceeding two hours None stated for crypto
FundingPips Allowed on evaluations; Master trades auto-close daily without the Swing add-on; Zero must be flat before the weekend close None stated
RebelsFunding Open crypto trades can be carried; opening fresh ones on Saturday or Sunday is not allowed None stated
Goat Funded Trader Allowed; funded accounts forfeit the gain on any trade entered during the final three hours before Friday's close and exited within three hours of Monday's open None stated

Firms with no weekend condition: AquaFunded, Breakout, BrightFunded, Cointracts, Dolvero, E8 Markets, Fundedbit, Funded Trader Markets, HyperPNL, HyroTrader, Klein Funding, Mubite, Propr, SizeProp, The5ers, TradeXProp and Upscale (whose Friday window applies to index positions, not crypto). HyroTrader's agreement lists weekend positions as permitted, and Fundedbit states its accounts carry no overnight swap.

What two days of holding actually cost

Funding cost = position value × daily rate × days held

On a $30,000 ETH position held Saturday and Sunday:

Firm Daily rate Weekend cost
Velotrade 0.05% $30.00
Kraken Prop 0.033% $19.80
WenCrypto 0.033% $19.80
Most others none published $0, plus exchange funding where an account is Bybit- or Hyperliquid-linked

A three-day holiday weekend adds 50% to those numbers. Annoying, but not what ends accounts.

The weekend fee is pocket change; the weekend price move counted against your daily limit is what fails challenges.

The real risk. On a $50,000 account with a 3% daily limit you have $1,500 of room per day. A $30,000 ETH position that drops 5% loses exactly $1,500. FRED's Coinbase BTC data shows 16 sessions with a close-to-close swing of at least 5% in the year ending 29 September 2026, and such days are not confined to Monday through Friday. Most crypto firms check breaches against live equity, which means an unrealized loss counts as soon as it appears.

The rule of thumb is to size so a 5% move fits inside one day's limit:

Daily limit Room on $50,000 Largest BTC position for a 5% move For an 8% move
3% $1,500 $30,000 (60% of the account) $18,750
4% $2,000 $40,000 (80%) $25,000
5% $2,500 $50,000 (100%) $31,250

How the weekend runs on a 24/7 market

Resets fire on Saturday and Sunday. Most crypto-first firms, among them Breakout, HyperPNL, HyroTrader, Kraken Prop and Velotrade, open a new day in the first half hour after midnight UTC on both weekend days. That cuts both ways: a 2% loss late Saturday and a 2% loss early Sunday on the far side of the reset are two days inside a 3% limit, not one breach. The same 4% drop inside one firm day fails it. The daily drawdown page lists every firm's reset.

Funding keeps settling. Bybit's 8-hour perpetuals settle at midnight, 08:00 and 16:00 UTC, which means six settlements from Saturday to Monday. Hyperliquid settles hourly, so 48. Firms with their own rate replace the exchange's schedule.

Liquidity thins. Weekend order books are shallower, so a stop sized for a Wednesday market can fill well beyond its trigger on Saturday.

Worked BTC example. Take a $10,000 account with a 3% limit and a midnight UTC reset. You hold $8,000 of BTC from Friday. On Saturday at 23:00 UTC BTC is down 2.5%, a $200 loss: inside the $300 day. It falls another 2.5% by 01:00 UTC Sunday, a further $200 that lands in Sunday's new day. Two days of $200 each pass. Had both legs landed between resets, the $400 loss would have breached.

Four ways firms restrict weekend positions

  1. A daily fee that runs on weekends. Velotrade, Kraken Prop and WenCrypto publish fixed rates. Crypto Fund Trader uses platform swaps or passes through Bybit's rate. PropW charges an undisclosed internal rate.
  2. A forced close. FTMO's funded Standard type, FundingPips' Master accounts without the 10% Swing add-on and its Zero accounts, Bitfunded's 10-day and 7-day holding limits, and PropW's 10-calendar-day limit.
  3. A trading window. RebelsFunding blocks new crypto trades at weekends. Upscale's Friday restriction covers indices only.
  4. A profit rule. Goat Funded Trader removes profit on funded trades that bracket the Friday close and Monday open within three hours either side.

PropW appears in two groups, so the groups cover ten firms in total.

Which firms make you close before the weekend

No crypto-first firm forces a weekend close. Two multi-asset firms do on certain account types.

FTMO. An FAQ change dated 11 October 2026 says Standard-type funded accounts (both the regular and the Instant version) have to be flat before any trading pause of more than two hours. The crypto CFD schedule shows weekend pauses of just 10 and 70 minutes, so on our reading the trigger does not fire for crypto in a normal weekend, but it would before a maintenance window longer than two hours. Confirm with FTMO support before relying on it.

FundingPips. Without the Swing add-on, Master accounts have open trades closed automatically each day in a 15-minute window ending 21:00 UTC (summer) or 22:00 UTC (winter). Zero accounts that still hold a position at the weekend close are terminated, and trades both opened and closed on Saturday or Sunday are not credited as a trading day.

Five habits for holding through the weekend

  1. Size for a 5% move inside one day's limit. Use the table above.
  2. Add the fee to the trade's cost. Include exchange funding on Bybit- or Hyperliquid-linked accounts.
  3. Buy the right account type. If you plan to swing trade at FTMO or FundingPips, choose the Swing type or add-on before your first weekend.
  4. Track holding limits in hours. At Bitfunded and PropW, the closing time is fixed the moment you open.
  5. Mind Goat Funded Trader's three-hour windows. Open swing trades before Friday's final three hours.

Frequently asked questions

Is weekend holding allowed in crypto prop challenges?

Yes. All 27 crypto prop firms we track allow it on at least their evaluation accounts. Ten add a condition such as a funding fee or a forced close on certain account types.

How much does it cost to hold crypto over a weekend?

Between nothing and about $10 per $10,000 of position for two days. Velotrade charges 0.05% a day; Kraken Prop and WenCrypto charge 0.033% a day. Most firms publish no fee.

Does the daily drawdown still apply on Saturday and Sunday?

Yes. Saturday and Sunday each get their own reset and their own allowance, and most firms monitor equity continuously, even when you are offline.

Which prop firms force me to close before the weekend?

No crypto-first firm does. FundingPips requires Zero accounts to be flat and auto-closes Master trades without the Swing add-on, and FTMO's funded Standard type must close before market breaks longer than two hours.
